Namibia derived its name from the Namib Desert, a unique geological feature renowned for the pristine and haunting quality of its landscape. Namibia is the land of bountiful sunshine, abundant wildlife, scenic beauty and rich diversity of geological phenomena.

Namibia's abundant wildlife is possibly its greatest attraction. Large game species found in the country include elephants, rhinos, giraffes and buffalo, as well as lions, leopards and cheetahs. There are over 20 species of antelope and over 630 bird species.

Namibia's inhabitants vary from hunter-gatherers, herders and farmers to an urban population with semi-skilled, skilled and highly skilled people consisting of traders, industrialists, civil servants and individuals in a wide diversity of professions. They belong to 13 different cultural groups.
